“To provide a safe and secure environment with training and development facilities for students and people within the local community alike; including people of all minorities, social backgrounds, and disabilities; providing network opportunities and breaking down social barriers for progression within a media career or environment.”
Voice FM is a station truly local to Southampton, broadcasting from the city centre to a weekly audience of 80,000 listeners (source: media.info). We enable young people, students and other local people aspiring to learn about radio the opportunity to learn skills and showcase them on a massive platform.
Voice FM is committed to supporting the local music scene and so we feature local and homegrown artists on our playlist. We have managed to promote local artists and help them reach a larger audience in and around Southampton but furthermore helping them to get national airplay; many of the artists we’ve supported from day 1 are now being heard on national radio stations; we consistently manage to keep on top of the latest local trends.
Our aim is to have every volunteer progress, learn and enhance their skills in radio and unlock their full potential. Volunteers have gone on to work for Global, Celador, BBC, ITV and other large media corporations across Europe. We currently manage over 100 volunteers and each one is given the opportunity to fill in a development plan with our volunteer coordinator to ensure that we help volunteers as much as they help us to keep the station running.
Voice FM is committed to create a diverse and inclusive radio station with shows featuring pop, rock, dance, indie, urban, and soul music, just to name a few. We are also an equal opportunities organisation which means that we implement a policy to ensure that everybody is treated in the same way, regardless of their background, race, gender, sexuality or other factors.
We work closely with local businesses, organisations and charities on a regular basis and love to promote what’s happening in the community; whether it’s Just The Job or a live music event, we’re always committed to serving our local community. By supporting Voice FM, you are not just supporting a radio station but also the communities, small businesses, organisations and charities that is is involved with.
Voice FM broadcasts 24/7 on 103.9FM in Southampton, online at voicefmradio.co.uk, via TuneIn & iTunes and are in the process of expanding our reach further by working with Ofcom to broadcast on a local DAB multiplex.
